How to Upload Custom Art to Samsung Frame TV

Samsung Frame TV is not limited to the Art Store library. You can upload your own photos, digital art, and AI-generated images to display alongside curated artwork. Here are three ways to get your custom art onto your Frame TV.

Method 1: SmartThings App (Easiest)

  1. Download the SmartThings app on your phone (iOS or Android)
  2. Make sure your phone and Samsung Frame TV are on the same WiFi network
  3. Open SmartThings and select your Frame TV from the device list
  4. Tap Art Mode or Art Store
  5. Select "My Photos" or "Add Photos"
  6. Choose images from your phone's gallery
  7. The images transfer wirelessly to your TV

This is the fastest method for a few images. Quality depends on your source image resolution — aim for at least 3840×2160 pixels (4K) for the best results on a 4K Frame TV.

Method 2: USB Drive

  1. Copy your images to a USB flash drive (FAT32 or NTFS formatted)
  2. Plug the USB drive into the USB port on your Frame TV
  3. Navigate to Art Mode → My Photos
  4. Select images from the USB drive to import
  5. Once imported, you can remove the USB drive

USB is better for batch uploads — transferring 50+ images at once is faster via USB than the SmartThings app. Supported formats: JPEG, PNG, BMP.

Method 3: Google Photos Integration

  1. Link your Google Photos account to your Samsung TV via settings
  2. Go to Art Mode → Google Photos
  3. Browse your Google Photos albums
  4. Select images to display

Google Photos integration is convenient if your art and photos are already in the cloud. The TV pulls images directly from your Google account — no manual transfer needed.

Image Requirements

SpecificationRecommended
Resolution3840×2160 (4K) or higher
Aspect Ratio16:9 (native TV ratio) — other ratios display with borders
FormatJPEG, PNG, BMP
File SizeUnder 20MB per image
Color SpacesRGB (most common) — wide gamut supported on newer models

Tips for Best Results

  • Match the aspect ratio — 16:9 fills the screen without borders. See our aspect ratio guide for details
  • Use high resolution — the Frame TV is 4K; low-res images look blurry at large screen sizes
  • Consider the matte effect — Samsung's matte mode reduces glare but also softens details slightly; images with bold composition work best
  • Mix custom and curated — set Art Mode to rotate between your uploads and Art Store pieces for variety
  • Create AI art at 4K — use ArtTV to generate images in the right resolution and aspect ratio from the start

Common Issues

  • Image looks stretched or cropped — wrong aspect ratio; create art in 16:9 or the Frame will crop to fit
  • Image looks pixelated — resolution too low for the screen size; upscale before uploading or generate at 4K
  • Colors look different on TV — Samsung's matte mode shifts colors slightly; test and adjust if needed
  • SmartThings can't find the TV — ensure both devices are on the same WiFi network and the TV is powered on

Generate Custom Art for Your Frame

The easiest way to get unique, frame-ready art is to generate it with AI. ArtTV lets you create art in 16:9 and other aspect ratios at 4K resolution, specifically optimized for art TV displays. Generate art, download, and upload via any method above.
